As I reflect on what health promotion means to myself and its influence on my professional career, I think of Public Health Ontario’s (2024) definition as “the process of implementing a range of social and environmental interventions that enable people and communities to increase control over and to improve their health” (para. 1).

The first image I share of the senior looking out the window to me sets a tone for the need of health promotion for our older adults with strategies to combat social isolation, loneliness and promote healthy aging (Wong, 2023).

The second image encompasses some of the key terms that I have found in my past experiences to be connected to health promotion (Mindscanner, 2014). Health promotion occurs at many levels and with many different initiatives and strategies. I have typically been involved at an organization level as we implement initiatives to address promotion of best practice and patient centered initiatives to promote improved patient outcomes.
