Lisa Van Casteren
Registered Nurse, GNC (c) & Educator
About Me
My name is Lisa Van Casteren and I am a Registered Nurse in Ontario, Canada. I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing through Nipissing University and began my nursing career with Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital an inpatient surgical unit. I discovered that was not the direction I envisioned my professional career and briefly moved to Bonnyville, Alberta to work with the geriatric population. After working with geriatric population, I discovered this is my passion and pursued through Ryerson University a Gerontology Certificate. Following this certificate, I was able to complete my GNC (c) through the Canadian Nurses Assocation. and started working with dementia patients with responsive behaviours. As things progressed within my place of employment, I was given the opportunity to accept an informal leadership position. As this position required a cardiac focus, I was able to obtain my Coronary Care I and II courses through Durham College. Through out the course of my professional career I have had the opportunity to hold various positions to contribute to my professional growth before becoming most recently a clinical educator for acute medical surgical inpatient programs. By obtaining a Master's of Health Studies, I am hopeful to continue to develop leadership skills and advanced my career. I'm hopeful this e-portfolio is able share with you my passion for lifelong learning. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter and my dog Nike. On days off, we can often be found enjoying the outdoors in some capacity or enjoying quiet time together.
